Liquid Rubber Trowel Applied Paste
Liquid Rubber Trowel Applied is a high-build rubber paste which cures to form a tough, flexible, rubber-like compound with exceptional tear strength and abrasion resistance. It is applied with a trowel, putty knife or other spreader to repair worn or damaged rubber parts and create protective linings for surfaces.
It is easily applied and bonds to metal, rubber, concrete, fibreglass, wood and many other materials. Liquid Rubber Paste even bonds on wet surfaces. It fills large gouges in conveyor belts, rebuilds rubber treads and repairs other damaged parts.
Applying Liquid Rubber Paste to a surface protects against corrosion, wear, abrasion and vibration. Its vibration-resistant properties mean it reduces noise when used to line equipment. It fills expansion joints and is used to seal low-pressure tank leaks.
A 20-minute pot life allows enough time for careful application. It achieves a functional cure after 16 hours. Equipment can be put into light service after 10–16 hours and medium service after 24 hours. A full cure is reached in seven days.
Sylmasta also manufacture a pourable version of Liquid Rubber. Liquid Rubber 80 is painted onto surfaces using a brush. It can also be poured into moulds to create highly-detailed new or replacement rubber parts. Its working times are the same as Liquid Rubber Paste.
A faster curing, pourable version is available for reducing downtime. Liquid Rubber Rapid 5 Minute comes with a pot life of 5 minutes and a light handling time of two hours.
Liquid Rubber Trowel Applied Paste Details
Surface preparation is required before application. Full instructions detailing the preparation required for specific substrates are provided with the product. A primer should be used for best results and maximum adhesion.
Part A and Part B are mixed at a 100:60 ratio by weigh or 100:66 by volume. To ease the mixing process, the Part A container has enough room to dispense all Part B into, enabling it to be applied straight from the container. Stir in Liquid Rubber Thickener until the designed consistency is achieved.
To repair worn and damaged rubber parts, Liquid Rubber Paste is spread into holes and tears using a hand tool to a thickness of at least 3mm to provide sufficient strength. It will cure to seamlessly fill the damage with a new rubber surface.
For lining applications and noise reduction, it is applied to a thickness of at least 1.5mm. Applying multiple layers will build up a thicker, longer lasting, more resistant coating. The re-coat time of Liquid Rubber Paste is 12 to 24 hours.
For filling expansion joints, it is forced firmly into the joint with a trowel. The joint is filled to 1mm below the height of the concrete to prevent overfilling.
Equipment can be put back into light service after a minimum of 10 hours. Once cured, the repair can be ground flush. Details of this process are also included on the Technical Data Sheet.
